Legal and law-enforcement professionals often become
professionally interested in the cult phenomenon because a client consults them about one
of the following:
A custody dispute in which one of the spouses is in a
cultic group.
Child
abuse issues related to a cultic group.
The possibility of filing a lawsuit against the group
(e.g., to recover money given to the group; to seek damages). In such cases it is often
